Personal

What was today like?

Well, we came down to Galveston in order to see my sister-in-law graduate from the University of Texas Medical Branch with her Masters in Nursing. She’s going to be a family practice nurse practictioner and we’re all very proud of her. So, we just had to come down for the event.

So, we drove down yesterday. As the humidity crept up the a/c on the car stopped working as efficiently and we ended up feeling hot, even with the air conditioner on high. We eventually stopped and got ice cream and the kids, of course, made a mess with that.

On top of that (which will tie it in with today’s happenings) we discovered that we had left Carol’s dress at the cleaners.

So, this morning after a late breakfast it was off to WalMart. We got her a new dress and some other sundries and returned to the hotel.

We promised the kids a swim. So, swimming we went. After approximately 45 minutes we got out and returned to our room.

That swim was our first mistake. As it later became obvious, our choices were: swim or eat lunch. We didn’t know that at the time, but not knowing ahead of time wasn’t much consolation.

We finally noticed the time relative to when we should be arriving for the pinning ceremony. So, we get appropriately dressed and hussle down to the ceremony (we’re staying at the hotel where the event happened) and get there just in time for the processional.

Then Jonathan got grouchy. Then Hannah did. Timothy tried to nap.

Then things were over. And they reminded us that the commencement would commence in about one hour. Ooops! Now we know that no lunch will be had today. Carol takes Jonathan out to see if she can make him happy and is gone for the next two hours.

She finally shows up and we finish watching the commencement ceremony and find out that we’ve got an hour to get changed and go to dinner….or we lose the reservation!

So, we go to the restaurant (after changing clothes) and wait.

And wait.

And wait.

After an hour or so, we finally get our dinner. It was good, but with three kids who had had nothing to eat since breakfast, that hour turned into a very long time. And to wile away the time, they turned into little monsters. We normally have very well behaved kids, but tonight they got rambunctious and wouldn’t mind. We did eventually get that straightened out, but it made for a less than pleasant evening.

So now everyone is in bed. Except me. And I soon will be.
