Personal
Wow! I like it! I really really like it!
Well, it seems I’ve managed to put something up every day since moving to WordPress.
Perhaps, maybe it’s time that I explained why, exactly, I moved to using WordPress.
The biggest reason is ease of use. For a long time I was blogging using software created by Ray Camden. I did it mainly because we’re a Macromedia shop so I wanted to use a blog that was done in ColdFusion. It worked well enough if all I wanted to do was post entries.
But, it wouldn’t do other things that were just as important.
I couldn’t have multiple bloggers (which I haven’t done yet here but remains an option).
Placing posts in multiple categories wasn’t an option, either.
Both of these things are vital for projects like the Stitchery Mall’s Project Idea Center.
Another thing that I didn’t find with Ray Camden’s blog was pingbacks and trackbacks. I really, really like that WordPress lets you pingback not just pingback URLs that you specify, but also URLs that are in the body of the entry.
Finally, the ability to blog by email is just wonderful. I need to tweak some of the code that I’m using for that so that I can specify categories within the email. Right now, any emailed post I send gets posted to “General.” But that’s fixable, even if I haven’t gotten around to fixing them yet.
