Once again, I’m jealous of Mr. Clark

You might not know this about me, but I’m a huge fan of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan books. I especially love John Clark and Domingo ‘Ding’ Chavez. In a nod to my wife, let me state that I could do without all of the danger, but really, I’m kind of jealous of someone who leads such an … interesting life.

Now, these bits of trivia are not really very relevant to the rest of the world, but that knowledge will help you make sense out of this post’s title. You see, today, I got an advertisement from the local Ford dealership (pic below the fold). This, in and of itself isn’t all that important, but you’ll notice that this advertisement has an extremely cleaver salutation: “Dear Variable”

Now, if you read or watched Clear and Present Danger then you might well remember Mr. Clark’s call sign during the fighting in Columbia was …

Yeah, you guessed it, “Variable.”

So, it seems that I’m getting Mr. Clark’s mail and he is one of only a very select few in Central Texas eligible for getting such a great deal on a new car.

So, I’m not only jealous of the excitement that seems to surround him, but now I’m jealous of his wheels, too.

Or, maybe this is only an object lesson about proofreading the results of your mail merge before it gets sealed into the envelopes.
