Et tu, AOL?

I think AOL’s free accounts are great. They’re great enough that I don’t mind a bit of marketing sent my way in exchange for the service.

But when I got a credit card offer, I drew the line and decided to find out what I could opt out of. Those things have gotten me in enough trouble that they ended up spawning a debt-reduction site and I really don’t want any more of them.

You can only imagine my surprise when I found out that I can’t.

Now, looking at the options, there’s some stuff that I really would like out of. I’m willing to take email offers, and am certainly willing to accept AOL pop-ups while I’m actually using the service (but don’t want them while I’m logged out of it). But, I would prefer not getting stuff in the mail and I really don’t want stuff by phone.

But, due to technical difficulties, I can’t opt-out.

I’ll try again tomorrow, but really people, this is something that I shouldn’t be dealing with.
