Coconut Pudding

My wife and I are doing the Houston Methodist Hospital medically-managed weight loss program. It involves meal replacement stuff and is a very low calorie diet (800 kcal/day). Tonight, I tried making coconut pudding. I think it's the thing that I like best so far and was easy to make: Ingredients 1 packet of the Vanilla Pudding mix6-7 oz of water.5 tsp of coconut extract It's pretty easy, right? Just mix them all together.

One of these things is not like the others. One of these things is exactly the same

While trying to fix SPF checking on my server I discovered that you need for resolve.conf to have a "nameserver" entry. My setup read "dns-nameserver". So, now my file reads: "dns-nameserver 127.0.0.1 nameserver 127.0.0.1" But, things are working correctly now.

Two wasted votes

I've heard a lot this political season about not wasting your vote by voting for a 3rd party. That if you vote your conscience that you're condemning America to four years of Clinton or Trump. They are, it is said, the only two real choices in this election. To some degree or another, that's correct. The next chief executive will likely be chosen from one of the two dominant political parties in our country. It has always been that way and...

My Party Left Me

The year was 1980. I was all of 6 years old. I asked my dad if he was going to vote for Jimmy Carter to be re-elected. He asked me why he would do that, and I responded that "things didn't seem to be going too bad" for our country. Ah! The innocence of youth! Dad quickly gave me my first crash-course in economics. There were other things going on then, too, but I wasn't paying attention. I did, however, get an eye full of the posters (with a...

The Revolution Will Be Complete

There is a quote from {title} that came to mind when I read the recent story about the language guide put out by the University of New Hampshire: "Don’t you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly...

Fixing the_excerpt

Over on Spamtacular, I've had some problems with are based around my somewhat heavy use of Academic Press (a plugin that I use for creating citations and the bibliography you'll find at the bottom of many posts). My problem is that Wordpress doesn't parse shortcodes when putting together the excerpts that are displayed on the homepage. So, my excerpts were reading very strangely. For instance, the excerpt for the current first post on...

I’d Better Get a Heavy-Duty Tire Gauge

So, The Word I am hearing is that John McCain is somehow an idiot for taking issue with Barak Obama’s insistence that we need to properly inflate our tires and get tune-ups to save as much gasoline as “all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling.” {publisher} follows up the ridicule with a piece by the Director of Communications for the Auto Alliance which has been characterized as confirming Obama’s view of things....

Lawsuit: Woman can’t be president

Douglas Wallace claims that a woman cannot be President. His reasoning? Douglas Wallace, 80, contends that because the U.S. Constitution relies on the pronouns “he” and “his” in describing the duties of the president, no woman can hold the office. Wallace argues the constitution would have to be amended to specifically allow a female president and accused Clinton of trying to make an “end run around the Constitution.” Legal scholars...
